Thanks to the lovely, very patient, calming Jayne my 1st attempt at Yoga was actually very nice.
Relaxation is not something that comes easily to me but Jayne asked all the right questions to start with to get an understanding of me and what I am like.
The class, considering it was the ‘Gentle’ class was HARD work. I stretched parts I didn’t know existed. I realised I pull my shoulders up and need to let them relax. I realised I am not at all flexible (Well I knew that anyway but didn’t realise I was quite this bad) but according to Jayne I was quite a good student.
I listened, I followed and I relaxed ands best as possible.
I need to work on my Downward Dog, but loved, loved, loved the Cobra and the Warrior pose.
I left feeling semi-detached, full of spirit and light hearted.
1 hour of hard work and indulgence in myself was good and I will be back there. You never know I may even get promotion to the next level one day .
Getting to work at 7am Breakfast before leaving home is just not an option.
- I just can’t face food that early
- If I did eat that early I would be chewing on my fingers by 11am!
So today I am trying something new (to me anway)
Hot Oats with Chia Seeds and Maca Powder
After a 5 mile run nothing is more satisfying for me than a bowl of Hot Oats, remember the old Ready Brek advert they warm you from the inside and make you glow all day?
Containing Vitamin D, calcium and being high in fibre it’s perfect to keep things moving nicely in more ways than one.
By adding Chia Seeds I have given it a boost of Omega 3 and 6 and calcium so brain function should be good today!!
And the Maca Powder a product I had never heard of but found in the health food Isle. I got it as it is a great addition to your diet to naturally reduce tiredness and fatigue and increase mental stamina. (I could definitely do with a bit of that!!)
It is part of the radish family and was originally grown in the mountains of Peru it as long been referred to as the Peruvian Ginseng.
On top of the energy increase it is said to improve sexual function, assist with menstrual symptoms, improve skin and balance moods. So in all I should be hop, skipping and jumping my way through today.
Last Christmas I went crazy for a Spiraliser and Santa was really kind and gave me one!
In 1 year I have used it twice! Like all these amazing fads and health food crazes they never turn out to be quite what you expect.
So it sits on the side in your kitchen gathering dust and making an interesting talking point with visitors.
Well more fool me.
Tonight I tried Spiralised Courgette, stir fried with garlic. WOW!!!
I used it instead of pasta with a bolognaise, it cuts down on calories and carbs but still leaves you feeling full, satisfied and tastes divine.
My Spiraliser will be moved from the corner of the kitchen to pride of place and I am going to be having some real fun trialling different things to turn from boring to crazy curly delights.
Well the time has come I fear 😣
It is time to retire my faithful Asics. With a heavy heart I say this.
Why I the heavy heart? After all they are just trainers?
No these Asics are more than just trainers to me.
- They were my first pair of proper running shoes
- I saved for weeks and did loads of additional work to pay for them
- They saw me through my first painful runs
- They trained with me for my first 10k race
- They ran my first 10k with me and got me my best time
- They trained with me for my first half marathon
- They ran my first half marathon with me
- They have been with me rain or shine, uphill and down, the long and short, the fast and slow
I love my Asics they always felt like air, everytime I put them on and have never given me blisters or pains.
Until recently, now I can feel every step, my knees have started feeling it and my hip. It is recommended that you change your runners every 300 to 500 miles and these little beauties have more than covered the average, but loyalty to them (and the dreaded cost to replace) have stopped me retiring them sooner.
Goes to show that good trainers really are worth their weight in gold.
My Adidas are my back up pair but I will definitely be saving again for another pair of Gel Nimbus they have done me proud and seen me through things I never thought possible.
Thank you Asics between you and me, my life is so different now and running has become my friend not my enemy.
